WACO – The Brownwood JV Lions moved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 against District 5-4A Division I opponents with their fifth shutout victory of the season, 35-0 at Waco La Vega Thursday night.
The Lions – who have outscored their foes 263-13 this year – got off to another fast start as they built a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter.
Quarterback Ike Hall completed passes to 7 different receivers on the night going 13 of 19 for 210 yards with 2 touchdowns. Jordan Nickerson led all Lions receivers with 5 catches for 80 yards, while Hayden Noe and Logan McKibben each caught 2 passes and a touchdown. McKibben and Hall also added a touchdown each on the ground. The Lions offensive line of David Turner, Mitchel Venzor, Chris Robinson, Davis Le, and Michael Stroope did not allow a sack or tackle for loss in the contest.
The Lions defense continued its dominant performance as the secondary of Xavier Zepeda, Hayden Noe, Colton McMillian, and Morsello Hooker did not allow a completed pass on 10 attempts on the night.
The JV Lions will play next Thursday at home vs. Alvarado at 6:30 p.m.

Freshman Lions 12, La Vega 6
WACO – The Brownwood Freshman Lions bounced back from a loss last week to notch their first District 5-4A Division I victory, 12-6 at Waco La Vega Thursday night.
The Lions (5-2, 1-1) trailed 6-0 in the second quarter after La Vega converted a 4-and-15 from the 29 to take the lead.
Still trailing with 4:30 left in the game, the Lions scored on a 4-and-5 pass from their own 20 as Treyvell Williams connected with Ross Strasner for the 80-yard score that forced a tie.
The defense then held La Vega, giving the ball back to the offense. With 40 seconds left, Williams scored on a 10-yard run for the final 12-6 outcome.
Defensive standouts included Robert Trowbridge (6 tackles, 1 TFL), Enrique Vasquez (6 tackles), Jack Field (5 tackles), and Weston Wolf (5 tackles).
