The Lady Lions – who advanced to the Region I-4A meet in Lubbock of Oct. 25 – tallied 53 points followed by Glen Rose with 56, Stephenville with 64, Gatesville with 77 and Lampasas with 96.
“I’m so proud of each one of them,” said Lady Lions cross country head coach Chesney Neely. “They have put their eyes on this goal all season long and were intentional and mature in how they prepared for the district meet. I told them last week to truly trust their training to be able to reap the benefits of what they have been working so hard on this season – and they proved that today. They are excited and determined for the regional meet in Lubbock and have their eyes on qualifying for state.”
Freshman Kate Tindol led the charge for the Lady Lions with a second-place effort of 12:44.8. Also placing in the Top 10 were freshman Sidney Windham with a ninth-place time of 13:07.1 and sophomore Emma Stegemoller who came in 10th clocked at 13:09.4.
Freshmen Talia Craff finished 14th in a time of 13:26.3, Braycee Lee was 18th in a time of 13:43.4, Miranda Northcutt placed 20th in a time of 14:01.8 and Kylea Karnes came in 29th after running a 14:28.4.
The Lions came in fourth as a team at the district meet with 83 points, but Caleb Nelson finished sixth overall in a time of 18.12.1 to advance to regionals. The top three teams move on – Stephenville (35), Gatesville (37), and Lampasas (73) – as well as the top 10 individuals if they are not a qualifying team.
Also competing for the Lions were Evan Fraze (16th, 19:45.2), Vincent Floyd (18th, 19:54.9), Weston Burns (21st, 20:05.3), Cameron Phipps (22nd, 20:10.8) and Hunter Glass (32nd, 23:47.1).
The JV Lady Lions finished second as a team with 44 points, trailing only Stephenville (32).
Running for the JV Lady Lions were Alma Bernal (3rd, 14:26.4), Mia Lara (4th, 14:48.9), Ava Brownlee (9th, 15:22.1), Marisa Campos (13th, 15:58.1), Isabella Garza (15th, 16:01.6), Miranda Torres (18th, 16:23.8) and Jacklyn Lewis (20th, 16:29.3).
Meanwhile, the JV Lions placed third as team with 60 points, behind Lampasas (28) and Stephenville (34).
Brownwood competitors were Jayden Garcia (13th, 22:25.8), Jose Rodriguez (14th, 22:33.4), Carter Fleet (15th, 22:36.2), James Nolan (17th, 23:20.9), and Noah Pyle (21st, 25:25.8).
