LAMPASAS – The Brownwood High tennis team suffered a second straight District 6-4A defeat Saturday, falling to Lampasas by an 11-8 count.
“We didn’t really come out ready and they outplayed us in doubles so we dug a hole and just couldn’t overcome that deficit,” said Brownwood High tennis head coach Crystal Blazek. “We played a total of 11 tiebreakers and only won three. There’s the difference in the match.”
Brownwood picked up just two doubles wins, both on the boys sides, as No. 1 team Dillon Gatlin and Nathan Ramos (2-6, 7-5, 7-5 over Calk and Shaw), and No. 2 duo River Prado and Taylor Wallace (6-3, 6-4 over Arellano and Vasquez) were victorious.
Collecting singles wins for the Lions were No. 1 Peter Le (4-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Shaw), No. 2 Gatlin (6-1, 6-3 over Rogers), No. 3 Ramos (7-5, 6-1 over Calk), No. 4 Prado (6-2 6-0 over Vasquez) and No. 5 Wallace (6-3, 6-2 over Champion).
The lone singles victory for the Lady Lions belonged to No. 1 Victoria Ramos (6-0, 4-6, 14-12 over Valdez).
The Lions and Lady Lions (7-5, 1-2) will attempt to bounce back at 4 p.m. Thursday as they host Stephenville.
