The Brownwood JV Lions improved to 5-0 on the season with a 38-7 victory over Abilene Wylie Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.
The Lions have outscored their five foes 186-13 – an average of 37 to 3 per outing.
In the win over Wylie, quarterback Ike Hall rushed for two touchdowns and threw another. Hall also added a 2-point conversion pass to tight end Trent Loftin.
Running back Logan McKibben compiled more than 150 total yards rushing and receiving and chipped in two touchdowns on the ground. Hayden Noe caught the touchdown pass and Colton McMillian booted a 25-yard field goal.
The Lion defense was led by lineman Jameria Harlmon, linebacker Stevie Ramirez, and cornerback Isiah Rodriguez.
Freshman Lions 28, Wylie 26
ABILENE – The Brownwood Freshman Lions collected their fourth consecutive victory Thursday night, edging Abilene Wylie, 28-26, on the road.
The Freshman Lions (4-1) took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter on a 15-yard touchdown run by Noah Gonzalez, coupled with a two-point conversion from Braeden Stacks to Cameron Aultman.
Wylie cut the deficit to 8-6 in the second period but the Lions answered with a 1-yard run by Gonzalez to boost the lead to 14-6. At halftime, Brownwood was in front 14-12.
The Lions fell behind 20-14 early in the third period, but Brownwood regained the lead in the fourth quarter. Weston Wolf and Robert Trowbridge jarred the ball loose from the Wylie quarterback and Cobe Walker recovered the fumble on the Wylie 29. Later, Gonzalez scored on a 9-yard run and added the two-point try for a 22-20 Brownwood lead.
With 50 seconds left, Gonzalez scored on a 44-yard run which stretched the Lions’ lead to 28-20, but Wylie still had life.
The Bulldogs then scored with 20 seconds left, but Treyvell Williams broke up the two-point pass attempt to seal the victory.
Defensive standouts included Gonzalez (7 tackles, TFL), Wolf (2 tackles, TFL, forced fumble), Williams (3 tackles, PBU), and Tyler Roberts (2 tackles, sack).
Wylie 12, Combined Team 6
The Lions took a 6-0 lead in the second quarter on an 18-yard pass from Ty Tindol to Jim Evetts, but Wylie tallied two second-half touchdowns – including one set up by a blocked punt.
Defensive standouts included Jaiden Gordon (13 tackles, TFL), Treyvon Mitchell (1 tackle, 2 TFL), Jonathan Bush (3 tackles, 2 TFL), Zakk Zabecki (3 tackles, 3 QB pressures) and Evetts (3 tackles, 2 PBU).
