Several units of the Brownwood Fire Department and a Lifeguard ambulance responded to the Chaparral Apartments at Magnolia and Belmeade Streets. The call came in at 12:01 pm Wednesday and, according to Brownwood Fire Chief Eric Hicks, firefighters found fire in one unit of the apartment complex.
“We were able to extinguish that fire quickly using a pre-connected hose line. One person was checked out for smoke inhalation. Currently we are working with Red Cross to get some housing for that resident,” said Chief Hicks. The resident did not have to be taken to the hospital.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation as of 12:30 pm. It did not appear that any of the other apartments were damaged.
