A house on County Road 201 in southern Brown County caught fire late Saturday afternoon, and is a total loss. No one was home at the time of the fire, so there were no human injuries or loss of life. It is unknown if there were any pets in the house.
Lt. Colton Tibbitts of the Winchell Volunteer Fire Department was in charge of the fire response. He commented: “We received a call for a structure fire on CR 201, right around 5:00 pm this evening. I was the first to arrive with Winchell Squad 12. We arrived to find a house, a single story structure, about half way involved (in fire). I initiated incident command. The house is a total loss. Nobody was home, so no saves were needed.”
Firefighters responded from five different fire departments: Winchell Volunteer Fire Department, Brookesmith VFD, Brownwood Fire Department, Early Fire Department, and North Lake VFD. At least 14-15 firemen fought the blaze, with a similar number of support personnel. Also responding were Brown County Emergency Management, Lifeguard EMS, Oncor Electric, and the Red Cross.
The origin of the fire and the name of the owner of the house were not available Saturday evening.
