EARLY – The Early Longhorns kept their unblemished record intact, denying the Comanche Indians in their bid for their first victory of the season, 58-14, Friday night.
Early (3-0) finished with 397 yards of total offense – 202 through the air with four touchdowns and 195 on the ground with three more scores – while turning the ball over twice.
The Longhorn defense limited Comanche (0-3) to 182 yards, including just 11 yards rushing on 41 carries. The Indians also coughed up the ball four times, with three giveaways coming on fumbles.
Early quarterback Jaxyn Price completed 13 of 23 passes for 197 yards with a trio of scoring tosses, while Tre Beam rushed for a team-high 141 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries.
John-Stewart Gordon hauled in six receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown for the Longhorns, while Jeremy Brown added four grabs for 70 yards and two trips to the end zone. Ki Houston pulled down two catches for 29 yards while Hayden Welch (5 yards) and Gavin Sanders (4 yards) also caught one pass each.
Franky Villarreal contributed 44 yards and Michael Morales finished with 16 yards on the ground, while Tucker Hale completed his lone pass attempt for 5 yards for the Longhorns.
For Comanche, Luke Wilson rushed for 81 yards, Miguel Martinez chipped in 5 yards and the other three Indian ball carriers finished with -75 yards on 16 carries.
Hudson Welch connected on 13 of 28 passes for 171 yards with two scoring tosses and one pick. Martinez pulled down nine receptions for 111 yards and two touchdowns, while Layden Welch chipped in three catches for 51 yards.
Next week, Early welcomes Merkel (2-1) – which fell to Hawley, 41-7, Friday night – for homecoming, while Comanche attempts to bounce back at home against Tolar (2-1) – which knocked off Boyd, 76-48, Friday night.
