The Howard Payne University volleyball team lost the first match of the season to McMurry University 3-1 Tuesday night in the Brownwood Coliseum.
Mya Ross had a match high 12 kills for Howard Payne.
The Lady Jackets got off to a hot start opening with a three nothing run. Howard Payne never trailed the War Hawks in the first set. The final score was 25-20.
McMurry went on to win the final three sets by scores of 25-8, 25-15, and 25-11.
Mya Ross led Howard Payne with 12 kills, eight digs, and one block. Abbie Knepper and Hannah Parnell had three blocks. Kaitlyn Elsten had 10 assists.
Leading the way for McMurry was Madison Cuellar with 11 kills and five aces. Myranda Salcedo had 17 assists and Kaylie Vasil had 15 digs.
The Lady Jackets will travel to Colorado Springs, Colorado to play in a tournament on Sept. 10th and 11th.
