A new super-size Food Plaza store is under construction at the corner of Austin Ave. and Coggin Ave. The building of approximately 15,000-square feet formerly housed the Sav-On Food grocery store for many years. Vacant for almost two decades, the building was purchased several months ago by the company that owns and operates several Food Plaza stores in Brownwood and surrounding communities.
The building is getting a new facade, as well as interior renovations. When complete it will house a super convenience store, fuel pumps (including ethanol-free gasoline and pumps for trucks), a kitchen serving bar-b-que, ice cream, and other foods in a 34-seat restaurant, and a drive-through liquor store. There will also be three spaces available for rent to other businesses. If interested in one of these spaces, call Cindy McCoy at 325-200-8707.
Tony Mann with Food Plaza said a construction time estimate is difficult to make because of shortages in building materials, but they hope to have the new Food Plaza store open by the end of this year.
