HOUSTON – Howard Payne University’s Josh Williams recorded six saves for the Yellow Jackets in a 6-0 season opening loss to the University of St. Thomas Wednesday afternoon.
Despite St Thomas’ 2-0 lead at the half, the match was statistically close at the break. It was St Thomas who out shot Howard Payne by double digits in the second period, adding four more goals to their lead.
It was a physical match with St Thomas committing 13 fouls (seven for HPU) and both teams combining for six yellow cards (three each).
HPU’s Josh Williams got the start in goal for the Jackets, playing all 90 minutes and recording six saves.
Mikel Santamaria had three shots, two on goal for Howard Payne. Alexander Paz added two shots to the Yellow Jackets totals.
The Yellow Jackets will play next on Saturday at home versus Texas College at 2:00 pm. All admission to Citizens National Bank Field is free.
