“They started off the day great and really took care of business,” Lady Lions third-year head coach Allison Smith said of her squad’s performance. “Against Bryan and Liberty Christian, who won state in the private school division last year, I thought they did a really good job fighting and keeping the other teams thrown out of system.
“Against Holliday we just didn’t have the stamina at the end of the day to play to our potential. Holliday is a solid program who put up a good game.”
The Lady Lions (11-3) return to tournament action at 10 a.m. Saturday against Granbury.
In Friday’s 25-19, 13-25, 25-16 win over 6A Bryan, Gracie Boswell led the Lady Lions with seven kills followed by Olivia Fowler with six, Kylie Morris and Tessa Goodwin with five apiece, Jaylen Savage with three and Jordan Northcutt with two.
Kylie Wooten dished out 11 assists while Goodwin contributed nine and Kassidy Wooten chipped in one.
Fowler served six of seven aces, while the other coming from Goodwin.
Defensively, Boswell logged 22 digs trailed by Goodwin and Kassidy Wooten with 10 apiece, Fowler with eight, Morris with six, Savage and Kylie Wooten with two each and Northcutt with one.
At the net, Savage notched three blocks, Morris added two and Northcutt and Goodwin were both credited with one.
Brownwood rallied for a 20-25, 30-29, 25-22 triumph over Argyle Liberty Christian.
Fowler sparked the offense with 12 kills trailed by Goodwin with seven, Boswell with six, Morris with five, Savage with four, and Northcutt with three.
Kylie Wooten distributed 19 assists, Goodwin recorded 13, Kassidy Wooten added two and Boswell chipped in one.
Fowler also served a team-high six aces followed by Morris, Boswell and Kassidy Wooten with one apiece.
Kassidy Wooten collected a team-high 14 digs followed by 10 from Fowler, nine each from Morris and Boswell and Kylie Wooten, eight from Goodwin, and one from Savage.
Savage again led the way at the net with a pair of blocks while Morris and Goodwin chipped in one apiece.
In the 25-15, 25-21 loss to Holliday, Goodwin and Fowler posted a team-best six kills each followed by three apiece from Boswell and Savage and one each by Morris, Northcutt and Kassidy Wooten.
Kylie Wooten rang up 11 assists trailed by Goodwin with six and Kassidy Wooten with one.
Kassidy Wooten also served three aces while Fowler and Morris chipped in one apiece.
Defensively, Fowler’s eight digs were a team-high trailed by seven from Morris, five each from Boswell and Kassidy Wooten, four by Goodwin, three by Kylie Wooten and one by Northcutt.
Morris, Savage and Northcutt each finished with one block apiece.
