In press release from the office of District Attorney Micheal Murray on Wednesday, Aug. 25, Zachery Cooper Huber was sentenced to 50 years in prison on an Aggravated Sexual Assault charge.
Huber will serve the 50-year sentence day for day with no ability to receive parole based upon the age of the victim at the time of the offense. Huber stated he was 35 years old as he entered his plea. Under the plea agreement, Huber will remain incarcerated until he is 85 years old and then will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
Murray said that Huber had previously been convicted and served time in prison in Kansas for Abuse of a Child. Detective Jared Spohn of the Brownwood Police Department investigated Huber for abusive acts he committed against a child that was in his care.
Murray said that he is proud that his office could resolve this case with such a strong sentence while protecting the victim’s family from having to go through the trial and appellate process.
