Brownwood’s Jaslin Jones, who qualified for the state powerlifting meet as a freshman, broke records in the Junior women 165-pound weight class for the 13-15 age division at a pair of meets she competed in during the summer.
First, Jones competed at the Strength Factory Showdown, an official United States Powerlifting Association meet, in Oklahoma City on May 15. While there, Jones broke the state records for bench press, squat and deadlift. She also broke the national record for deadlift on her final attempt at this meet lifting 303.1 pounds.
Jones then competed again at the Battle of Body Works in Stillwater, Oklahoma on July 17. There she broke the national record for squat on her second attempt. On her third attempt, she went to break the record she just set, breaking it again by squatting 264.6 pounds.
Along with qualifying for state as a freshman in powerlifting, Jones advanced to the area track meet in the shot put. She plays volleyball and basketball, is a varsity cheerleader and has made the drill team and will be a Lionette the second semester. She takes several dance classes at Feat Studios in Brownwood and has received Academic letters in Mathematics and Science and also received the Cum Laude academic excellence award.
Jones, who will begin her sophomore year this week, is the daughter of Jason and Raylee Jones of Brownwood.
