The Brownwood High tennis team picked up a pair of weather-shortened victories on its home court Saturday, topping Killeen 10-2 and Snyder 7-6 before rain and lightning moved into the area.
In the win over Killeen, the Lions and Lady Lions combined for five doubles triumphs.
Picking up victories for the Lions were No. 2 duo Dillon Gatlin and Nathan Ramos (8-4 over Jelaen Camba and Jinwoo Hong) and No. 3 tandem Eric Waldrop and Wesley Goodrich (8-3 over Micah Marquez and Noah Marquez).
For the Lady Lions, doubles wins were earned by No. 1 team Victoria Ramos and Aishwayra Nigayle (8-1 over Keiana Moore and Carlyha Jones) and No. 3 pairing Madeline Scull and Lyric Shaw (8-3 over Jhayde Pangelinen and K. Caravante).
Brownwood also added the mixed doubles win, claimed by Taylor Wallace and Tatum Dehart (8-0).
Collecting singles the Lions were No. 1 Peter Le (8-4 over Anthony Drake) and No. 6 Goodrich (8-0 over Noah Marquez).
Tallying singles wins in girls action were No. 3 Dehart (8-6 over Zaila Thomas), No. 5 Scull (8-2 over Pangelinen) and No. 6 Raylei Hickey (8-1 over Kosemarie Pope).
Against Snyder, the Lions and Lady Lions rang up six victories in seven doubles matches.
The Lions swept doubles play with victories by No. 1 Le and River Prado (8-6 over Chris Moreno and Sharl Hodge), No. 2 Gatlin and Ramos (9-7 over Andrew McGraw and Jaden West), and No. 3 Taevion Nickerson and Thomas Stewardson (8-3 over Nathan James and Ean Terrazas.)
Adding doubles wins for the Lady Lions were No. 1 Ramos and Nigayle (8-2 over Avery Schiffner and Chapman), and No. 3 Hickey and Claire Meinecke (8-6 over Kirsty Lopez and Bennett).
In mixed doubles, Wallace and Dehart upended Kerr and Hurner (8-6).
Ramos also chipped in a singles win in the No. 1 girls position (8-0 over Schiffner), which proved to be the deciding victory.
“I’m very pleased to see how our doubles played today,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Crystal Blazek. “We went 11-3 today in doubles and in team tennis that’s what we stress a lot so I’m excited to see that.”
The Lions and Lady Lions (4-0) will be back in action Tuesday at Weatherford against Weatherford at noon and Argyle at 4 p.m.
