The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Thursday morning:
On Aug. 5 at approximately 3:15 p.m. officers with the Brownwood Police Department responded to a room at the Hendrick Medical Center-Brownwood regarding a disorderly conduct call.
Officers approached a room on the 2nd floor and identified a male subject as 29-year-old Edward Stephen Davis of Brownwood. Davis was highly agitated and ultimately escorted from the hospital area. t was learned that Davis was informed by Child Protective Services that his newborn child was being removed from the home by CPS.
Later in the afternoon, Officer Kris Salazar was assigned a follow up investigation regarding this call. Officer Salazar spoke with a CPS investigator who detailed his interaction with Davis.
The investigator reported that when Davis was informed that CPS was intervening, he became argumentative and aggressive toward them. In an attempt to calm the situation, CPS investigators left the room and during that process, one of them was assaulted by Davis. It was reported that Davis slammed the hospital room door to such an extent that it caused an injury to an investigator.
A warrant was sought for Davis and he was arrested on Aug. 9 for Assault on a Public Servant.
