The doors to the Brownwood Senior Citizens Center opened to the public Monday morning for the first time in 15 months. Even though they missed seeing everyone, the COVID shutdown of the center allowed Angie Dees and staff to make some changes during the down time.
“Oh my gosh, so much has changed. We took the time that we were closed and we repainted the whole entire building. Everything has been painted from top to bottom,” Dees said.
Among the changes are new tables, new décor, new frozen drink machine, hot cappuccino machine and salad bar soon to arrive.
Decorating the walls inside the center are old photographs, a history of Brown County that residents were already enjoying on Monday morning.
“We removed all of the old art-work that was here and we replaced it with pictures of Brown County, something that means something to them. Someone’s already found their grandfather in a picture. The whole building is just covered with different pictures,” Dees said.
Seniors are walking into the same location but certainly not the same building as they remember prior to COVID. A large crowd was expected to celebrate the reopening.
The hours for the senior center will remain the same, open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm.
