The July Jam event in downtown Brownwood, a follow-up to the very popular Cinco de Mayo celebration in May, was very successful on Saturday night. An estimated 5000 persons attended July Jam, almost as many as the 7000 who came to Cinco de Mayo.
The event was centered at Pat Coursey Park, at the Corner of Center Ave. and Baker Street, where a number of musical performers entertained the crowd throughout the evening. Center Ave. was closed to vehicular traffic and was filled instead with street vendors, offering food and refreshments, games, and a wide variety of merchandise. Even the U.S. Marines had a booth, if you wanted to join up and serve your country.
Event Chair Travis Curry, who last week was presented the “Good Neighbor Award” at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce banquet, commented: “I am very pleased. We have had a very good diverse group of people, a diverse group of music, so I am really excited. I am ready to continue on and plan our next group of events.”
Other events being planned include La Posada in December, and perhaps a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration in March 2022, and then another Cinco de Mayo celebration in May 2022. This year’s July Jam benefitted the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.
