A surprise announcement was made Thursday night at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet. The new Executive Director, Nathan Smith, was introduced to the audience. He will take the place of Sunni Modawell who stepped down from the position on June 2nd.
“I’m very excited about this opportunity to be the next Executive Director of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce for a lot of reasons, one of which is that the Brownwood Chamber is doing so many great things and has done so many great things, especially through this COVID season that we’ve had,” Smith said.
Smith grew up in Colorado City in Mitchell County and married a Brown County woman, Kara (Kelton) Smith of May, Texas.
“Agriculture has been my background. I recently came from Texas Farm Bureau where I worked in the organization division, did some lobbying, agriculture promotion and a lot of work with our non-profit county farm bureau boards,” Smith said.
“Brown County is where we want to call home, it’s where we want to raise our kids. We’ve got four young kids and this is where we want to be and that’s the reason why I was looking for an opportunity in this area,” Smith added.
Smith will begin his work at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce on July 14.
“My number one job is just going to be to stay out of the way of the good progress that’s being made and try not to mess things up in the first few months,” Smith said with a laugh. He was complimentary of the Chamber staff and looks forward to working with them in promoting Brownwood and Brown County.
