The Corrine T. Smith Animal Center has been placing lots of dogs and cats in new homes, but the intake of new animals is exceeding the outgoing placement.
For the four weeks of May 25 through June 21, 84 dogs and cats were adopted, returned to owner, or transferred to a rescue organization. Unfortunately, in that same time period 122 dogs and cats were taken in by the shelter.
As a result the shelter is now full. They desperately need adopters for the current dogs and cats in the shelter, to make room for new ones. Also helpful would be individuals who can “foster” an animal until a permanent home can be found.
The shelter also is asking for volunteers. Because the shelter is at maximum capacity, the staff works full time on the daily chores of feeding, cleaning pens, etc., and does not have time to exercise the dogs. Volunteers are sought to walk the dogs, throw a ball, play with cats, etc. The volunteers can also help with chores such as feeding, watering, laundry, cleaning pens, mowing and weed trimming.
Speaking of which, the shelter’s riding lawn mower has quit working. A donation of an operable riding mower, new or used, would be greatly appreciated.
