Wayne Jenkins, age 85, of Coleman, died Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
The family will host a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with his son, David Jenkins, worship leader at Bible Baptist Church in Slaton, officiating and Mark Strebeck, assisting. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
He was born Wayne Bennett Jenkins on September 9, 1935, in Coleman to Floyd Jenkins and Ovie Kelly Jenkins. He grew up in Coleman where he graduated from Coleman High School. Wayne played football for Coleman High School and obtained a football scholarship to play at Howard Payne College in Brownwood. He married Anna Mae Slaughter on March 4, 1956, at Central Baptist Church in Coleman. Wayne worked for the Texas Highway Department for over 40 years. He enjoyed farming, plowing on the tractor, and spending time with his family and friends. Wayne was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Coleman. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Wayne will be missed, but we know that he is at peace as he stands in the presence of Jesus.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Mae Jenkins; his son, Mark Wayne Jenkins; and great-grandson, Elijah Jasso.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Jenkins of San Angelo, David Jenkins and wife C.J. of Slaton, and Elizabeth Strebeck and husband Mark of Orange; his daughter-in-law, Terry Jenkins of Sherman; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Floyd Jenkins, Jr. of San Angelo; and one sister, Claris Billings of Coleman.
Pallbearers will be Houston Bassham, Micah Huebner, Randall Jenkins, Jonathan Strebeck, Mark Strebeck, and William Strebeck.
