She was born Narva Marie (Reaky) Stalcup on March 10, 1933 in Cotton Center, TX to Harvey Ernest and Verna Belle Neff Stalcup. Marie was raised in Cotton Center and graduated from Cotton Center High School. She and her siblings grew up on a farm where they all learned to work hard and together as a team. All the photos of the family show them laughing and loving together. Marie never married but she had her nieces and nephew to keep her busy. In June 2009 she moved to Coleman, TX to be close to family leaving her long-time home and farm.
Marie was very talented. She was an artist, seamstress and followed in the footsteps of her Mom and sister and was a flower gardener. She was an exceptional western artist. She painted in oils, acrylics, ink, and pencil. She was so talented she was invited to New York City to show her artwork. Her paintings grace the walls of her family and friends. Marie was also a great art teacher. Many hours were spent teaching her nieces and nephew to draw and paint both on canvas and ceramics. She was patient and detailed. She would stop what she was painting and describe techniques and color. She was an inspiration to us as children. She contributed to community by drawing and painting the Cotton Center School Mascot “The Elk” for the Yearbooks and other events. Marie made teddy bears that were sold on the market for some time. They were as artistic as her paintings. She was an avid flower gardener having beautiful blooms surrounding her and her pond. She could crochet and made beautiful dollies. She was truly talented. One of our best memories is her request for her Milky Way and Coke. Marie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cotton Center, Texas.
Marie is survived by her sister-in-law June Stalcup of Coleman, TX. She is also survived by niece Judy Stalcup Aerdts and her husband René of Plano, TX, niece Deborah Cox and her husband Garry of Coleman, TX, niece Donna Crofford and her husband David of Scottsdale, AZ, nephew David Stalcup and his wife Glacia of Coleman, TX and niece Cherry Parks and her husband Randy of Lingleville, TX, and cousin Hulan Hamlin and wife Billie of Plainview, TX. In addition, there are the great and great-great nieces and nephews too many to list. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Ernest and Verna Belle Neff Stalcup, her sister Velma Lee Sisemore and husband Willie, her brother Billy Stalcup, her brother Leonard Stalcup and wife Frances, and niece Cassandra Kay Parks.
