A proposed solar power plant project in southwest Brown County is still under consideration. The project has been proposed by IP Radian/Intersect Power of San Francisco, California. It would cover approximately 3000 acres and produce up to 300 mega-watts of electricity, enough to power up to 50,000 homes. The project would be solar only, no wind turbines.
In January of 2020 the Brookesmith ISD voted to create a “Radian Reinvestment Zone for the 3000 acres of the project, and approved a Texas Chapter 313 Appraised Value Limitation.
IP Radian also requested a property tax abatement from Brown County, but that was voted down by the Commissioners Court on May 10.
We contacted Intersect Power and asked if the project was still under consideration. On May 25 Intersect Power replied: “At this time, we are still evaluating the viability of the IP Radian project without the abatement.”
Brownwoodnews.com will publish any further information as we receive it from Intersect Power.
