Brownwood High School athletic director Sammy Burnett on Monday announced the hire of Dublin’s Will Parker as the new head coach of the Lions basketball program. Parker replaces Brownwood graduate Nadir Dalleh, who recently accepted the position of head coach at Howard Payne University.
Parker comprised a 124-64 record in six seasons at Dublin with five playoff appearances and two district championships. After posting a 7-19 record in Parker’s first season, Dublin went 117-45 over the last five campaigns – winning 72 percent of its games – and notching at least 20 victories each of those seasons. During the 2020-21 campaign, Dublin finished 20-10 and advanced three rounds deep in the playoffs.
“We got a great man, a great Christian man first and foremost,” Burnett said of Parker. “He’s a very strong disciplinarian that comes with a great work ethic and a great record. I’ve seen him coach the last several years and he does a great job with the kids that he has. They play at a high level and that’s very understandable with the kind of character that he brings. We’re really looking forward to kicking off his tenure at Brownwood.”
Before coaching at Dublin, Parker spent three years as an assistant at Haltom City. He also spent time as a trainer and assistant coach as Fort Worth Dunbar, helping lead the Wildcats to the 2005 Class 4A state title, as well as state berths in 2007 and 2008.
Parker then returned to his alma mater, Fort Worth Southwest, where he worked as a trainer and assistant coach from 2008-12.
Parker is a 1999 graduate of Fort Worth Southwest High School and a 2003 graduate of Texas Wesleyan University. Parker also spent time as a youth pastor at Ridglea Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth from 2004-07.
Parker will be a guest on KOXE’s Brownwood Lions Coaches Show at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
