The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Wednesday afternoon:
On Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at approximately 5:45 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1600 block of 1st Street regarding a suspicious person. The address is known to officers due to repeated calls from the resident – 50-year-old Robert Calbert Walker. On this occasion, a neighbor phoned police stating that Walker was on his front porch covered in blood.
Officer Zachary Davis and other officers arrived and located Walker lying on his front porch holding a puppy. It appeared that Walker had dumped his trash can onto the porch and chose to sit in the waste. Officer Davis also observed an obvious open wound to Walker’s forehead and other lacerations to his face. Walker refused to believe that the officers were real and would crawl away from them when they got closer to his porch. Walker was continually yelling and cursing and appeared to be under the influence of an illegal substance.
Officers were able to get a hold of Walker and place him in handcuffs so that he would be secure enough for medical personnel to assess his medical needs. He was transported to the Hendrick Medical Center-Brownwood for care.
While at the ER, the handcuffs were removed, and Walker would vary from moments of calm to agitation. He refused to allow the medical team to clean and care for his open wound. When the ER staff attempted to gurney him into a treatment room, he attempted to climb off the gurney and flee the area. This prompted Officer Davis to hold onto Walker’s shoulders to keep him in the lying position. While doing this, Walker attacked Officer Davis by biting his forearm, causing teeth marks, scratches, and bruising.
Walker was medically cleared and escorted from the ER. While walking to the police vehicle, Walker surrendered a glass pipe in his possession which contained a usable amount of residual methamphetamine.
Walker was arrested and charged with Assault on a Police Officer (simple assault), Resisting Transport and Possession of a Controlled Substance (PG1).
