AUSTIN – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets captured the second game of an American Southwest Conference baseball doubleheader against Concordia, 7-2, Saturday and will play for a series victory Sunday.
The Yellow Jackets (8-22, 4-19) outhit the Tornados (15-10, 12-8) by a 15-5 count in game two to post the 7-2 victory.
David Paleo was great again at the plate going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Carson Wert and Rylee McGee also recorded three hits in the game for the Jackets. Wert posted the only homerun in the doubleheader.
Bryant Chambers received the win in the start for HPU going 5.2 innings allowing just one run on four hits. Cody Leal, Johnny Cravey and Harlee Biggs each saw action on the mound in relief for the Jackets.

Concordia 5, HPU 4
With the game tied at 4-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Yellow Jackets would load the bases with two outs. A wild pitch scored a run from third to give Concordia the 5-4 win in the scheduled seven inning game.
HPU scored in the first on a Rylee McGee single to plate Gage Keate. In the second, back to back hit by pitches with the bases loaded scored Nolyn Box and Wylan Kolts. Concordia would hit four total batters in the game.
David Paleo was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and Rylee McGee went 2-for-3 in the game.
Kyle Purdes picked up the loss in the start going the distance and allowing five runs on 12 hits and striking out three.
Both teams will finish out their conference series with a single game on Sunday starting at 2 p.m.
