“We want to extend our sincere thanks for the wheelchair swing Mr. Schoen donated for our City park,” Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes said in a emailed statement. “Generous citizens like Mr. Schoen make Brownwood ‘Feel Like Home’ with each act of kindness. We are very excited to see the swing safely installed with instruction signage and a concrete pad and sidewalk to facilitate easy use of the thoughtful gift to the children of Brownwood. We hope to see many families enjoying special times at the park.”
The city assisted with installation, concrete pad, sidewalk leading to the swing and instruction signage. Also included with the signage is a Q-code with instructions how to use the straps for the swing.
Schoen said of the swing, “Basically it’s a swing designed for wheelchair use. It’s built to accommodate any size or type of chair. They roll up on it and strap the chair down and swing away. To some a swing may not seem that big of a deal but to those confined to a chair it can be a huge thing to do things ‘normal’ kids do. The main thing is I want people to know it’s available.”
