ALVARADO – The Brownwood Lady Lions squandered a nine-run lead, but scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to snap their six-game slide with a 12-10 victory at Alvarado Wednesday night.
The seventh inning for the Lady Lions (4-8-1) featured one-out walk by Mia Lopez followed by a go-ahead RBI double from Auzzlyn Benedict. Cecilia Rodriguez then singled home Benedict.
In the bottom of the seventh, Annie-Klein Allgood retired Alvarado (2-13-1) in order on three ground outs to the infield.
The Lady Lions led 9-0 in the top of the second inning, following one run in their first at-bat with eight more in the second. Lead 10-3 after three innings, Brownwood yielded seven runs in the bottom of the fifth as Alvarado drew even.
Brownwood finished with 14 hits – three by Benedict, who drove in five RBIs; two each from Hailey Snell, Chelsey Covey and Dakota Simpson; and one each by Allgood, Lopez, Rodriguez, Chesney Covey, and Mackenzie Welch. Allgood, Lopez, Rodriguez and both Coveys contributed an RBI apiece.
In the circle, Allgood gave up nine earned runs of 11 hits with six strikeouts and three walks over seven innings. The Brownwood defense committed three errors.
The Lady Lions are back in action at 6:30 p.m. Friday as they host Abilene Cooper.
