The Brownwood Education Foundation will present a Beatles tribute concert from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 20 at the Lyric Theatre as The Eggmen from Austin will be featured. Wright Asphalt is the presenting sponsor and proceeds benefit the students of the Brownwood Independent School District.
Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased at brownwoodlyrictheatre.com or supportbisd.org. The evening ticket price includes pre-show drinks and heavy hors ‘doeuvres at the Lyric studio. There will also be a live auction during the event.
Larry Mathis and Eric Evans spoke about the event Monday morning on KOXE radio.
“The education foundation has multiple missions and we’ve modified those to some degree over the last several years,” Mathis said. “Primarily the mission is the STEM program, but we’ve also transitioned into helping educators who are directly teaching STEM to get a higher degree.”
Evans added, “Most of the donations go to the STEM program but we want to make sure kids have the opportunity to thrive and the school district wants that, too. Some things they can’t do, they’re not allowed to spend dollars out of a particular perimeter. To have those dollars that can make a significant impact into the life of a kid, that’s a big deal.”
The Eggmen are one of the most popular musical acts in the Austin area and will perform an array of hits from the Beatles.
“They’re tremendous and they’ll divide their show into two acts,” Mathis said. “The first act before intermission will be the early Beatles hits. The second half is their later work and they dress in Sgt. Pepper costumes.”
With Gov. Greg Abbott’s recent executive order reducing COVID restrictions, the event will be open to a near capacity crowd at the Lyric as the lower level will feature traditional seating, while the balcony will feature socially-distanced seating.
“This was requested by the foundation and we feel this is a great compromise in helping people feel comfortable, but the energy will be significantly different,” Evans said. “The more people you have in a space, the more energy that will be there.”
