Varsity places second, JV wins team title at Brownwood tennis tournaments

Varsity mixed doubles champs Victoria Ramos and Peter Le and consolation champs Labritney Pollard and Julian Lares.

The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions finished second as a team to Lampasas at the Brownwood tennis tournament, which took place all day Thursday at various locations include Brownwood High School, Brownwood Middle School, Howard Payne University and Coggin Park.

Leading the way for Brownwood was the mixed doubles team of Victoria Ramos and Peter Le, which won the tournament championship.

Mo Goff finished second in boys singles, Lillian Jonescue and Aaliyah Uvalle came in third in girls doubles, and consolation winners included Taylor Wallace and Dillon Gatlin in boys doubles and Labritney Pollard and Julian Lares in mixed doubles.

Other schools competing in the varsity tournament included Snyder, Sweetwater, Copperas Cove, Lampasas, Brady, Clyde, and Jim Ned.

In Tuesday’s JV tournament, Brownwood came out on top followed by Lampasas in second place and Snyder and Copperas Cove tied for third.

Finishing first in mixed doubles were Tavion Nickerson and Tatum Dehart, who defeated teammates and runners-up Gage Greer and Madalyn Scull.

Placing third was Sonora Petty in girls singles and Phil Zorilla in boys singles.

Earning consolation titles were Mya Salazar and Lyric Shaw in girls doubles, along with Thomas Stewardson and Peyton Wells in boys doubles.

Other teams included Copperas Cove, Sweetwater, Mullin, San Angelo Lake View, and Big Spring.
