The Howard Payne Lady Jackets volleyball team slipped to 2-8 overall and 0-8 in American Southwest Conference action with a pair of losses to the Sul Ross Lady Lobos Tuesday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
The Lady Jackets dropped the first match 25-19, 25-10, 25-18.
Mya Ross led HPU with nine kills trailed by Amaya Marshall with seven, Mitsue Rodriguez with five, Fabianna Bennett with four, Riley Brittain with two, and Kaitlyn Elsten and Cameron Hughes with one apiece.
Brittain dished out 14 assists trailed by Elsten with 11 and Daisy Flores with one.
Elsten, Ross and Hughes each served aces.
Defensively, Chloe Pryor logged 10 digs followed by Ross and Brittain with nine apiece, Flores with seven, Elsten with five, Hughes with three, Rodriguez with two, and Marshall with one.
Ross finished with two blocks and Rodriguez and Hughes contributed one each.
Sul Ross (2-2, 2-2) was sparked by Annika Canaba’s 11 kills, 16 assists, four aces and two blocks – all team-highs – along with Mia Bella Ruiz’s 14 digs.
In the second match, Howard Payne fell by a 25-14, 24-26, 25-15, 25-18 count.
Ross led the charge with 12 kills followed by Rodriguez with 11, Marshall with eight, Brittain with six, and Hughes, Pryor, and Bennett with one apiece.
Brittain distributed 18 assists, Elsten chipped in 16 and Flores, Hughes, Ross and Bennett were each credited with one.
Flores served three aces while Brittain and Hughes added one apiece.
On the defensive end, Ross registered 21 digs trailed by Pryor with 12, Brittain with 10, Flores and Bennett with four apiece, Hughes, Elsten and Rodriguez with three each ,and Marshall with two.
Marshall notched four blocks while Ross, Bennett and Rodriguez added two each and Hughes tacked on one.
Sul Ross received 15 kills from Canaba, 20 assists from Vivian Moya, 20 digs and two aces from Tatyana Colon, and a pair of blocks from Kyleigh Mulanax.
The Lady Jackets will face Jarvis Christian and the University of the Southwest in a non-conference doubleheader in Hawkins Thursday, then HPU resumes ASC action at Sul Ross on March 9 with another twin bill.
