Linda Heitman and Melody Nowowiejski both gathered at City Hall Council Chambers at 10 o’clock on Tuesday morning to draw for a place on the ballot. They are running for Place 3 on Brownwood City Council in a special election May 1st. The winner will take the place of Larry Mathis who is moving from Brownwood later this year. Mathis will continue serving on the City Council through the May 1st election.
Linda Heitman’s name will appear first on the ballot. (shown above)
“I’ve been in Brownwood for almost five years. I’m originally from Houston, seventh generation Texan. I absolutely love this community. The people here are just amazing. I own a home here and I plan on being here for the rest of my life. I am very community involved and I think that this would be a really good fit. I think I’ll be able to do a lot for this community,” Heitman said. She is the director of Brown County Home Solutions.
Melody Nowoiejski (shown above) said running for City Council is something she has thought about for a long time and the time seems right.
“I’ve lived in Brownwood probably 20 years, or pretty close to 20 years now. I’ve thought about it for a long time but I was always in somebody else’s zone or it wasn’t the right time or a good time for me but my kids are older now. It just seemed like good timing and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, to see the city flourish and participate in that in some way,” Nowoiejski said.
