A high speed chase through three area counties ended in Coleman on Wednesday evening. Coleman County law enforcement assisted in stopping the chase that originated in Runnels County, traveled toward Abilene in Taylor County then ended in the City of Coleman. Around 5:10 pm Wednesday Abilene DPS called the Coleman dispatch to report that a vehicle was headed south on Hwy 84 towards Coleman.
A white van, reported stolen by the DPS, traveled at more than 100 mph toward Coleman, evading law enforcement.
The City of Coleman Police Department, Sheriff’s Department and Fire Department all gathered vehicles at the 84 Bypass intersection on the north side of Coleman. Spike strips were laid down, a tactic which proved to be successful.
The driver began losing rubber off his tires and turned into the Coleman Inn parking lot, where he was apprehended at 5:30 pm.
The driver was taken to Runnels County Jail. The driver’s name has not been released as of yet.
