Another downtown Brownwood attraction is set to open in the coming months as Stone’s Grove is the latest revitalization venture.
Located at 112 West Anderson, Stone’s Grove is described as “an eclectic, intimate, contemporary space serving signature libations, classic cocktails, and cold beer,” according to its Facebook page.
Owners Danielle Stone and Logan Stone spoke of their decision to start their new business, which they targeting to open near the end of April or early portion of May.
“We got to talking with friends at the Pioneer Tap House and they were thinking another place downtown would be good for people, something different,” Danielle Stone said. “ We got to talking about it and just decided we’re going to do it. We want downtown to grow, everybody wants downtown to grow, so that was our main deal, see what we can do to make that happen.”
Stone’s Grove will feature a laid back, lounge feel with a number of couches and chairs already in place as renovations within the building continue.
“We want the atmosphere here to be a lounge,” Danielle Stone said. “The atmosphere is not a club scene, it’s relaxed, come hang with your friends, have a drink, chill, then go to the next spot. That’s what we’re looking for.”
With several bars soon to be populating the downtown area, the Stones believe each business can and should stand out.
“We go to the Pioneer Tap House quite often, those people are our friends, our family goes there and we love the atmosphere,” Danielle Stone said. “But we won’t serve the beer they serve.
Logan Stone added, “We’ll go more toward domestic beer than the craft beer, that way we don’t take anything from them.”
Danielle Stone continued, “We’re going to have set mixed beverages, cocktails, the main mixed beverages that everyone drinks, and we plan to name some after businesses downtown. We’ll serve different types of beers, also.
“Then we have the wine place, Ten Mile, opening up. That’s another thing we won’t serve. We want our customers that want that to go over there.”
As the business grows, the Stones want to include live music and outside entertainment to their plans.
“Hopefully we’ll have live music in the future and bring bigger people in,” Danielle Stone said. “Music-wise it will be different from other places, too. We hope to collaborate with 10 Mile across the street, we’ve been talking with them a lot. I think people are expecting a dance floor, we won’t have that, we want people to relax. Now the nights we have music brought in we’ll make an area, but it’s not going to be somewhere you come in and dance around.
“We’ve also got garage doors to slide open in the summer time and we’ll be able to open those and hopefully we’ll talk to city about doing outside events. (Logan) has some friends he works with right now that play corn hole and they want to do a tournament. We want to be able to offer different things outside, crawfish boils, stuff like that to bring the community.”
Even further down the road adding a full kitchen is among the plans, but the business must first become successful and established.
“As long as we know we’re here and we’re set, we’re making people happy, making the community happy, I want to expand it into something like maybe a grill type place,” Danielle Stone said.
As for the location, Danielle Stone said, “I’ve always loved this building. We like the style, I love the brick in the building. Every time I’ve come in here I’ve always thought if we do anything downtown that’s the building I want, and it became available. It was pretty much what we were wanting for the business.”
Regarding the Stone’s Grove name, Danielle Stone said, “We just wanted to use our last name mainly. We tried a few different things with it and Grove just sounded upbeat and classy.”
In closing, Danielle Stone added, “I just really want people to understand that the atmosphere is going to be completely different than what they’re used to.”
