GLEN ROSE – A slow start to the second half plagued the Brownwood Lions, who dropped their second straight District 6-4A basketball contest, 45-36 to the No. 21 Glen Rose Tigers Friday night.
Brownwood (10-8, 1-2) led Glen Rose (19-2, 3-0) by a 9-6 count after one quarter, but trailed 20-16 at halftime and faced a 40-25 deficit heading into the fourth quarter.
“We have to do better at starting the half,” Lions fifth-year head coach Nadir Dalleh said. “We come out slow just about every game and that’s going to be an emphasis from here on out. We don’t want to lose a game because of the first three minutes of the third quarter. They got a big lead and it was hard for us to get back into it.”
The Lions received 10 points from Jakob Hataway, seven each from Bryson Monroe and Christian Kinzler, five from Michael Felts, and two points apiece from Luke Moss and Nathan Wheelington.
Kolton Mooney led Glen Rose with 14 points.
“We had a game plan coming in and they absolutely executed it,” Dalleh said. “Matthew Hammonds is averaging more than 20 points a game and we held him to 5, so we did a great job. We got beat on the boards a little bit and we had five or six straight turnovers that cost us about 10 points, and you just can’t give the ball away to a good team.”
The Lions are back in action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday as they host No. 25 Lampasas (16-2, 2-1), which is coming off an 89-42 win over Gatesville.
