GEORGETOWN – The Brownwood Lions opened the 2021 soccer season Thursday with a 3-1 loss to host Georgetown, a Class5A program, in the first round of the Governor’s Cup tournament.
Georgetown tallied two goals in the first half and one in the second.
Brownwood’s lone goal came on a backwards bicycle kick from Cameron Phipps.
“I’m very encouraged by how we competed against a very good opponent,” said Lions head coach Scott Swanzy.
The Lions (0-1) will be back in action at 6:10 p.m. Friday against Salado.
