The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Tuesday morning:
On Monday, December 21, 2020, at approximately 1:37 a.m. officer’s Roberto Rodriguez and Trever Sears were assisting first responders with a medical call in the 2100 block of 6th St. When the officers exited the residence, they heard a disturbance taking place in the front yard, a couple houses down.
Officers responded to that area and contacted a juvenile male who was standing with his mother beside a gold SUV. The male was identified, and officers learned that he was just involved in a physical altercation with his brother. The brother, 17 -year-old Devontray Delishaun Ross, was in the passenger seat when officers approached him.
Officer Rodriguez began speaking with Ross to investigate the alleged assault. Ross refused to listen to the officers and, when asked to exit the vehicle, refused to follow instructions. Officer Rodriguez attempted to remove Ross from the vehicle but was unable to maintain a hold of his arm. Ross then jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot toward Ave L. Officer Rodriguez and Officer Sears caught up to him and ordered him to stop fleeing and to get on the ground. Ross continued to actively resist; forcing Officer Sears to deploy his Taser to gain control.
Ross was initially arrested for Evading Detention and later charged with Resisting Arrest. After concluding interviews with the victim and mother, Ross was additionally charged with Continuous Violence Against the Family.
