When the COVID-19 vaccine may be available in Brown County was still not known as of Monday morning. County Commissioners received an update on COVID-19 cases in Brown County from Lisa Dick with the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department.
“We’re hoping for a vaccine to be sooner than later. Right now, we don’t have a clear date on distribution of immunizations and I know that the state will be keeping us up-to-date on that,” Lisa said.
The Brownwood/Brown County Health Department has been working on a plan of how the vaccines will go out once they arrive locally.
“It includes several different avenues which include physician offices, pharmacies, hospital and health department which will be combined effort. We’ll make more defined plans when we know what type of vaccine and dates of when they will be delivered,” Lisa added.
The first Pfizer vaccine in the U.S. was administered to a nurse in New York state Monday morning. It was mentioned in the Commissioners meeting that Brown County may now be receiving the Moderna vaccine, instead of the Pfizer, which was thought to be the one that would be available here.
“We have had 48 deaths, that is a three-death increase from last week. This is our 13th day, or we’ve past our 13th day, of being over 15% occupancy for the hospital,” Lisa said, noting 15 Covid patients in Hendrick Medical Center-Brownwood as of Monday morning.
