Texas House District 60 Representative-Elect Dr. Glenn Rogers was interviewed Wednesday morning by KOXE radio regarding his preparations prior to taking the oath of office Jan. 12.
Rogers said, “We’ve been busy throughout the district speaking to a number of groups. We’re meeting with a lot of people across the district, but we’re also going to Austin. I was in freshman orientation last week and we were addressed by numerous state agencies, and we talked about how things are done on the house floor. We also got our office assignments, seat assignments and so forth. It was a very busy week and I’m excited to get started. I’ll go down on Jan. 9 and get my keys, then we’ll be sworn in, that process starts at high noon on Jan. 12. We’ll take the oath of office and shortly after that they’ll be a speaker officially selected then we’ll have to approve the house rules and then we’ll move forward.”
Rogers also spoke about the issue that has been brought to his attention most since winning the election – high speed internet.
“That was really brought to light with the virtual learning in the schools and how some people have fallen through the cracks and have not had adequate access to do what they needed to do,” Rogers said. “Certainly the access to high speed internet affects a lot of things, it affects healthcare, it affects the ability of people to move out from the cities and do work from rural locations. There are many that would like to do that if they had access.”
Rogers stated his will have an office in Brownwood eventually, but likely not until March or April.
“With COVID things seem to be slowed down so it will be later in the spring before we actually have that physical office up and running. In the meantime we can be reached through our website, by email or certainly a direct phone call to me or any of my staff. We’re always willing to talk to any constituents that want to talk to us, ask questions, voice concerns, that’s what we’re here for is to serve this district.”
Rogers’ chief of staff is a Brownwood graduate, Jordan Senkirik Steinberger.
“She was recently married and most people in Brownwood know her as Jordan Senkirik,” Rogers said. “She graduated from Brownwood High School and Texas A&M and we’re so excited to have her as our chief of staff.”
Rogers also spoke about the Rogers for Texas Clay Shoot that will take place at the Brownwood Claybird Club Saturday.
“I’m real excited about the event,” Rogers said. “Steve Baker has done a fantastic job there at the Brownwood Country Club and with putting in this state of the art clay shooting facility. We had a couple of our fundraising events canceled due to COVID but this one we can do because it’s outside. We hope as many as possible can come out, it’s going to be a great time.”
Registration can be done on site beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday or online at scorechasers.com or through the Rogers for Texas Facebook page and website. A silent auction is also ongoing in conjunction with the clay shoot.
“We have a wide range of items from every count in the district in the auction we encourage everyone to go there and see if there’s something you might be interested in. It’s almost Christmas and if you have someone that’s hard to buy for, here’s your answer.”
