The Brownwood City Council on Tuesday unanimously approve donating property to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) on West Austin Avenue and to accept TxDOT’s offer of $127,312 for property located at the corner of Austin Avenue and U.S. 377 (Main Street) to accommodate a widening project and authorize the Mayor to sign the deeds without warranty.
TxDOT is preparing for a project at the corner of Main Street and West Austin Avenue to widen the intersection. The current phase of the project is property acquisition along the construction corridor.
As part of this phase, the City of Brownwood received offer letters for rights-of-way that the city owns. Two offers are for land that is in the current roadway and not developable and were donated.
The other offer was for property located at the corner of Austin Avenue and U.S. 377. In accepting TxDOT’s offer of $127,312, there is an understanding that TxDOT will agree to replace the brick planters, “Brownwood” sign, and irrigation.
The funds received will be placed in the General Fund recommendations for their disposition at a will be discussed at a future council meeting.
