Wreaths Across America is a program that began in the early 1990’s from the idea of a gentleman who wanted to lay wreaths in honor of all the veterans at Arlington National Cemetery.

“It has grown from that point to where it is a nationwide event.  Cemeteries all across the country participate.  Greenleaf Cemetery has participated, I know three years, that I’ve been on the board,” said Steve Puckett who is organizing the event for Greenleaf.

Greenleaf Cemetery volunteers are working to sell enough Christmas wreath sponsorships at $15 each so every veteran buried at Greenleaf will be honored, remembered and valued.  More than 1,500 veterans are laid to rest at Greenleaf and more wreaths sponsors are needed.

“For Greenleaf what it means is – we sell the wreaths – they sell for $15 apiece – and we are set up on a program where we get $5 back,” Puckett said.  The money is used for continued upkeep of the Greenleaf Cemetery.

Deadline to sponsor a wreath is 11:00 pm tonight (Tuesday 12/1).  To sponsor a wreath go to the Greenleaf website www.greenleafcemetery.org.  (See link below)

You may also find a link to sponsor a wreath on the Facebook page Friends of Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood, Texas.

“It’s real simple you just click the link, it takes you to the Wreaths Across America website, directly to our fundraiser page and you can select how many you want to sponsor,” Puckett said.

The wreaths will be placed on veteran graves at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 19.
