MERKEL – The Early Longhorns improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 57-35 road victory over Merkel Tuesday night.
Early again jumped out to a quick start with an 18-2 lead after one quarter. The Longhorns owned a 30-12 halftime edge and carried a 44-25 advantage into the fourth period.
Vic Cooper led the Longhorns with 19 points and Ethan Mitchell contributed 13.
The Longhorns visit Clyde at 7:30 p.m. Friday before opening the home portion of their schedule at 3:30 p.m. Saturday against Class 4A Lampasas.
Bangs Lady Dragons 36, Abilene Christian 31
ABILENE – The Bangs Lady Dragons picked up their second win of the season Tuesday night, holding off Abilene Christian for a 36-31 road triumph.
Bangs led 9-6 after one quarter, 13-12 at halftime and Abilene Christian drew even at 22 after three periods. The Lady Dragons opened a 34-27 edge in the fourth quarter and was able to keep Abilene Christian at a distance the rest of the way.
Brooklann Mullin paced the Bangs effort with 11 points followed by Bailey Mendieta with 10 and Cloie Montague with eight.
The Lady Dragons (2-4) are back in action at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Hamilton.
No. 22 May Lady Tigers 67, Rochelle 31
ROCHELLE – The Class A No. 22 May Lady Tigers improved to 6-1 on the season with a 67-31 road victory over Rochelle Tuesday night.

The Lady Tigers are back in action at 6 p.m. Friday at Gustine.
Sweetwater 36, Early Lady Horns 32
EARLY – The Early Lady Horns came up on the short end of a 36-32 decision against the Class 4A Sweetwater Lady Mustangs Tuesday night.
Early received 12 points from Dana Lykes, nine from Tatum Reigle, six from Caroline Welker and five points from Madison Torrez.
The Lady Horns (1-5) are back in action at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Priddy.
