EASTLAND – The Brownwood Lady Lions began their 12th season under head coach Heather Hohertz with a 33-23 road victory over the Class 3A Eastland Lady Mavs Tuesday night.
Brownwood led 4-2 after one quarter, 10-6 at halftime and 19-15 through three frames before pulling away in the fourth period.
“Our offense was shaky and took a while to get going, but our defense was active and kept us in the game,” Hohertz said. “We have to clean up our rebounding and the mental mistakes.”
Brooke Price led the Lady Lions with 11 points trailed by seven each from Alexa Arreola and Tesse Goodwin, and two points apiece from Kynslee Walker, Naysa Leach, Lindsey Larose and Jaylen Savage.
The Lady Lions shot 34 percent (11 of 32) from the floor, including 50 percent (3 of 6) from three-point land. Brownwood knocked down 57 percent (8 of 14) of its free throws, committed just nine turnovers, and recorded five steals.
Brownwood is back in action at 6 p.m. Friday at Fredericksburg.
