The Early Police Department issued the following press release Tuesday morning:
On Monday evening November 9th at approximately 8:45 p.m. Corporal Michelle Sheedy attempted to stop a vehicle on a traffic violation of a defective headlight in the 1900 block of Early Blvd. near FM 3100.
The vehicle continued driving and refused to stop while the patrol car followed with lights and siren activated. The pursuit was a low speed pursuit with speeds maintained around 35-45 miles per hour traveling west toward Early. The vehicle turned and went down Longhorn Drive and then turned onto McDonald Drive and pulled into a trailer house and pulled around back of the house in the 100 block of McDonald.
The driver stepped out and hesitated to comply with officers’ commands but after a few moments did comply and was taken into custody. Officers immediately located a 9mm handgun laying on top of the console in the vehicle.
Further investigation indicated the driver, David Thomas Lewis had a felony conviction on his record. Lewis was charged with felony evading arrest, unlawful carrying of a weapon class A misdemeanor and unlawful possession of firearm by a felon. Lewis was transported to the Brown County Jail.
