All seven Brown County high schools qualified at least one entrant in a variety of regional cross country meets that took place Monday and Tuesday.
At the Region I-4A meet in Lubbock Tuesday, Brownwood Lady Lion freshman Emma Stegemoller finished 24th overall – and 12th among runners on a non-state qualifying team – in a time of 13:34.2. The top 10 runners on non-qualifying teams move on to state.
Lion sophomore Caleb Nelson was 67th overall in a time of 19:07.2.
Also Tuesday at the Region II-A meet in San Angelo, the May Tigers placed ninth as a team. The top three squads advance to state.
Competing for the Tigers were sophomore Damian Salinas (23rd, 20:01.96), junior Kevin Muckleroy (52nd, 21:21.03), senior Isidro Salinas (63rd, 21:42.2), senior Rory Bustamante (72nd, 22:36.27), junior Kaysen Purcell (94th, 23:26.68), junior Brian Kunkel (95th, 23:32.01), and senior Lane Hardy (105th, 24:29.17)
Also running for May in girls action was senior Melanie Murphree, who came in 42nd in a time of 14:46.87.
On Monday at the Region I-3A meet in Lubbock, Early Lady Horn sophomore Madison Torrez placed 45th in a time of 14:26.5, while Bangs Lady Dragon senior Skylar Hutchins came in 90th in a time of 15:14.
During the Region III-A meet in Dallas on Monday, the Blanket Tigers came in 12th as a team. Competitors included senior Hector Castaneda (75th, 23:02.14), sophomore Brayden Day (78th, 23:21.68), junior Mark Yeats (83rd, 23:42.31), sophomore Emmanuel McLaughlin (89th, 24:56.13), senior Brady Furry (94th, 26:45.13), and junior Carlos Morales (96th, 28:01.68).
Zephyr was represented on the girls side by freshman Avery Dozier (27th, 14:55.51) and junior Grace Williams (63rd, 16:15.44), and in the boys race by seniors Drew Reynolds (60th, 21:37.97) and Kye McClain (71st, 22:42.99).
Brookesmith Lady Mustangs competing at the regional meet were freshman Neveah Neith (95th, 18:18.83) and freshman Dakota Luedecke (108th, 20:49.88).
