In other action Monday, the three Brown County Commissioners present – Gary Worley from Precinct 1, Joel Kelton from Precinct 2 and Wayne Shaw from Precinct 4 – unanimously approved the go-ahead for construction of the Brownstone Farms Subdivision in Brownwood.
Jason Roberts of Eden Farms LTD, based out of San Marcos, spoke about the property which will consist of 5-acre tracts of land.
“We’re trying to have small acreage ranch-at-home sites,” Roberts said. “We mainly buy a lot of ranch land, that’s where most of our money is placed, in rural areas. We’ve been looking forward to dialing in to rural communities with small colleges. Brownwood is a great town with good jobs, a good economy, and good growth.
“We’ve been up and down the I-35 growth corridor and the Houston growth corridor. This is our first development in Brown County and we’re excited to be here. I was recruited in high school to play football here, it was the first time I ever got to visit Brownwood.”
The Brownstone Farms Subdivision will be located in Precinct 1 south of town, off U.S. Highway 377 South toward Brookesmith near County Roads 221 and 225.
Additionally, commissioners unanimously approved OnSolve/Code RED Exhibits B and C be attached to the service agreement that was approved Oct. 26.
Darrell Johnston, Emergency Manager, stated the exhibits were essentially the “terms and conditions” of the agreement.
“Originally the program sent us a two-year agreement and as I explained last week I requested they do a one-year to stay within our current contract so that we could renegotiate next year for possibly a better deal,” Johnston said. “When they sent this one-year agreement they didn’t attach exhibit B which is basically all the legal terms and definitions. If you approve this it finishes up the Code RED, which our part of it will start Nov. 14.”
Also, commissioners unanimously approved the resolution for the Brown County Indigent Defense Grant Program. Indigent Defense Improvement Grants are awarded to assist counties in developing new, innovative programs or processes to improve the delivery of indigent defense services. A committee reviews and scores counties’ applications prior to presentation to the Grants and Reporting Committee and to the full Commission, according to the Texas Indigent Defense Commission official website.
County Judge Paul Lilly and Precinct 3 Commissioner Larry Traweek were not in attendance Monday.
The Brown County Commissioners Court will meet again Monday, Nov. 9 at the Brown County Courthouse.
