COLEMAN – The Class 2A Division I No. 3 San Saba Armadillos kept their unblemished District 4 mark intact Friday night, handing the Coleman Bluecats their second loss in a row, 43-10.
San Saba (7-1, 4-0) finished with 468 yards of total offense – 364 rushing and 104 passing – while limiting Coleman (6-3, 2-2) to 257 yards – 210 on the ground and 47 through the air. Each team turned the ball over twice.
The Armadillos offense was led by Stone Sears’ 211 rushing yards and a touchdown while Wesley Lackey added 86 yards a score. Justin Yarbrough chipped in 55 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and Risien Shahan rushed for 12 yards and a score.
Shahan also completed 6 of 10 passes for 104 yards with a touchdown, caught by Reagan Mejia who finished with two catches for 14 yards. Sears added two receptions for 54 yards, while Yarbrough and Glover both caught 18-yard passes.
The Bluecats received 82 rushing yards and 47 passing yards from quarterback Corbin Rosales. Cort McFadden caught a team-high two passes for 34 yards, while Ryland Gentry rushed for 53 yards and Devinar Roberson chipped in 47 yards on the ground.
Yarbrough led the Armadillos with 16 tackles followed by Glover, Shahan and Bryan Reza with 11 each, and Bladen Calley with 10 tackles. Reza and Calley each recorded a sack, while Shahan and Izaah Bessent intercepted passes.
San Saba will host No. 9 Cisco (6-3, 4-0) – coming off a 48-7 win over Goldthwaite – next week to determine the District 4-2A Division I champion and No. 1 and No. 2 playoff seeds. Meanwhile, Coleman visits Winters (3-6, 2-2) in a game to decide the district’s No. 3 and No. 4 playoff seeds.
Albany 35, Cross Plains 0
ALBANY – In a battle for the District 8-2A Division II championship, the Cross Plains Buffaloes held the No. 5 Albany Lions to six first-half points, but still came up on the short end of a 35-0 decision.
Albany (8-1, 4-0), which will head into the playoffs as the No. 1 playoff seed from 8-2A Division II, dominated the second half, however, as it racked up 235 yards in the second half – 131 rushing and 104 passing.
Cross Plains (7-2, 3-1), which will represent the district as the No. 2 playoff seed, finished with -7 yards – 4 through the air and -11 on the ground – and just 15 total snaps in the third and fourth quarters.
The Buffaloes were playing for the first time since a 27-14 victory over Santo on Oct. 9.
Cross Plains will conclude its regular season Friday night at Meridian (3-5, 1-3) – coming off a 75-25 loss to Santo – in a make up game due to a COVID outbreak at Meridian earlier this month.
Jacksboro 27, Comanche 14
JACKSBORO – With the No. 2 playoff seed from District 5-3A Division II likely weighing in the balance, the Comanche Indians came up short in a 27-14 loss to the Jacksboro Tigers.
Tied at 14 at halftime, Jacksboro (6-3, 3-1) pulled away from Comanche (7-2, 2-2) in the second half. The Tigers scored the final 21 points after the Indians built a 14-6 edge.
The Indians finished with 214 yards of total offense – 162 rushing and 52 passing – while Jacksboro chalked up 342 yards – 211 on the ground and 131 through the air. Comanche committed three turnovers while the Tigers did not give away the ball.
Luke Wilson led the Comanche ground attack with 64 yards and a touchdown, Logan Wilkerson added 35 yards, Oscar Rios picked up 32 yards and Aaron Suniga chipped in 26 yards with a trip to the end zone.
Through the air, Hudson Welch completed 5 of 13 passes for 52 yards with two interceptions. Taelon Sorrells caught three passes for 24 yards and Wilkerson hauled in a 28-yard reception.
Defensively, Wilkerson and Cash Cook each logged 19 tackles for Comanche followed by Christian Holmes with 13 and Wilson with 12.
Comanche will attempt to hold on to the third seed from 5-3A Division II next week as it hosts Merkel (3-5, 1-3).
Cisco 48, Goldthwaite 7
CISCO – The Goldthwaite Eagles were unable to hand No. 9 Cisco its first district loss as the Loboes picked up a 48-7 victory in 4-2A Division I action Friday night.
Cisco (6-3, 4-0) led Goldthwaite (2-7, 0-4) by a 14-0 count after one quarter, 28-7 at halftime and 41-7 through three frames.
The Loboes finished with 457 yards of total offense – 361 rushing and 96 passing – with no turnovers, while the Eagles mustered 176 yards – 142 on the ground and 34 through the air – with two turnovers.
Angel Morales led Goldthwaite with 105 rushing yards while Jackson Patrick completed 3 of 7 passes for 34 yards with a 24-yard scoring toss to Aaron Anzua.
Goldthwaite will wrap up its season at home against De Leon (1-8, 0-4) next week.
Evant 62, Zephyr 15
EVANT – The Zephyr Bulldogs concluded their season Friday night with a 62-15 loss to the Evant Elks in District 15-A Division I action.
Zephyr finished the season with a 1-8 overall record and 0-3 district mark, while Evant is 1-2 in league competition and 5-2 for the year.
