Brown County Commissioners met Monday morning. Precinct 2 Commissioner, Joel Kelton, presided in the absence of County Judge Paul Lilly. Present were Commissioners Worley, Traweek and Shaw.
Commissioners voted 4-0 to approve, upon recommendation of the Ambulance Oversight Committee, to extend the contract with Lifeguard EMS by one year as provided for in the original contract. The agreement extends the contract to the end of 2023. Lifeguard Operations Manager, Joshua Chapman, was present to answer questions.
In other business:
- Commissioners left the Burn Ban off at this time in Brown County.
- They received an update on COVID-19 from Lisa Dick of the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department. She reported that three age groups, 10-19, 20-29 and 30-39 have been affected most lately. The largest increase in COVID cases has been in the 20-29 year-old age group. She urged everyone to get their flu shot and said it is possible one could contract both flu and COVID at the same time.
- Commissioners heard a request from Angie Dees, Director of the Senior Citizens Center in Brownwood, to approve a Resolution authorizing the application for the Texans Feeding Texans: Home-Delivered Meal Grant Program. The annual request allows for the application for the grant from the Texas Department of Agriculture. Commissioners approved the request 4-0.
- Commissioners approved several items presented for consideration by Darrell Johnston, County Emergency Manager. They approved a contract with OnSolve/Code Red for addition of IPAWS to Code Red for Mass Emergency Notification. It is a one-year contract costing $9,800 which was budgeted for. The system sends emergency messages to cell phones that are located in or passing through Brown County.
- Commissioners approved 4-0 reimbursement of $1,777 in funds spent by five Volunteer Fire Departments for PPE used for EMS response in the county. The reimbursement is on the condition the fire departments provide the actual receipts for the PPE.
- Commissioners approved 4-0 a contract between Brown County and the Lower Colorado River Authority for usage of an LCRA transmission tower.
- Commissioners also approved 4-0 a tax note reimbursement Resolution allowing the County to reimburse itself for expenses related to tax notes.
