EARLY – Looking to lock up their first playoff berth in 12 years, the Early Longhorns’ plans were foiled by the Clyde Bulldogs, who picked up a 33-20 victory in District 3-3A Division I action Friday night at Longhorn Stadium.
Despite the loss, Early (4-4, 1-2) needs to win just one of its last two games – at home against San Angelo TLCA (0-8, 0-3) next week and at Wall (5-3, 2-1) Nov. 6 – to earn the program’s first postseason berth since 2008.
Against Clyde (4-4, 3-0), Early fell into a 12-0 hole after one quarter, faced a 17-7 halftime deficit and trailed 30-7 through three periods.
The Longhorns produced 291 yards of total offense – 182 rushing and 109 passing – but turned over the ball three times.
Jaxyn Price completed 6 of 21 passes for 109 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Rylie Hill caught three passes for 47 yards and scored twice, Alex Jacobs pulled down a 51-yard reception, Caleb McCullough added a 7-yard catch and Tre Beam caught a 4-yard pass.
On the ground, Jacobs led the way with 120 yards on 31 carries, Beam added 48 yards on 10 totes, and Price rushed for 25 yards and a touchdown on seven attempts. Franky Villareal’s lone carry resulted in an 11-yard loss.
The Bulldogs produced 299 yards, with 224 coming through the air, while committing just one turnover.
Clyde quarterback Dylan Neuman completed 13 of 20 passes, including three for touchdowns, while also rushing for a team-high 41 yards and another score. Jacob Roberts led all receivers with six catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns, while Garis Gray caught a 25-yard scoring toss.
