BLUM – The Class A Division I No. 6 May Tigers handed the reigning state champion and 12th-ranked Blum Bobcats a 74-28 thrashing Friday night to run their win streak to three games.
The Tigers (4-1) raced out to a 38-6 lead over Blum (2-2) in the first period and never looked back. Up 38-14 at halftime, May increased the lead to 66-22 in the third quarter and ended the game via the 45-point mercy rule in the fourth.
May generated 309 yards of total offense – 285 rushing and 24 passing – and returned two kicks for touchdowns, both by Kaden Halk covering 75 yards apiece.
Isidro Salinas led the ground game with 93 yards and three touchdowns, Halk chipped in 79 yards and two scores, Rory Bustamante rushed for 43 yards, Korbin Bass tacked on 40, Damian Salinas added 14 yards with a touchdown, Aaron McGinn contributed 10 yards and Blake Harrell rushed for 6 yards.
Harrell completed a 14-yard pass to Bustamante, while Bustamante hurled a 10-yard scoring toss to Halk.
Defensive standouts for May included Hayden King (13 tackles, a fumble recovery, and 5 tackles for loss), Chris Flenniken (8 tackles, a fumble caused, and 2 tackles for loss), Isidro Salinas (8 tackles), Harrell (5 tackles, a fumble caused, and a fumble recovery for a TD), Halk (5 tackles, and an interception), Damian Salinas (5 tackles), Bustamante (3 tackles), Lane McGinn (2 tackles), Jayce Blankenship (2 tackles), Aaron McGinn (2 tackles), Brian Kunkel (1 tackle), and Keith Cross (1 tackle).
Next week, May travels to Newcastle (2-3), which suffered a 34-30 loss to the Lubbock Titans Friday night.
Blanket 45, Gholson 0
BLANKET – The Blanket Tigers logged their fourth win in a row and first shutout of the season with a 45-0 home triumph over the Gholson Wildcats Friday night.
Blanket (4-1) limited Gholson (0-3) to 16 yards of total offense – including negative-5 yards rushing – with one first down and a pair of turnovers.
The Tigers offense covered 204 yards – 136 through the air and 68 on the ground – with a fumble lost.
Brayden Day rushed for touchdowns of 3 and 17 yards, Damon Carrillo added a 13-yard scoring sprint, Hector Castaneda chipped in a 3-yard touchdown run, and Tyler Simpson and Brady Furry caught touchdown passes of 34 and 45 yards, respectively.
Carrillo led the ground game with 34 yards while Furry caught a team-high three passes for 88 yards.
Day and Castaneda both finished with a team-high five tackles.
Next week, Blanket is slated to face Evant (2-0), which is coming off an 88-66 win over Penelope Friday night.
Zephyr 51, Paint Rock 6
PAINT ROCK – The Zephyr Bulldogs snapped a four-game losing streak to open the season with a 51-6 victory over the Paint Rock Indians Friday night.

Next week, Zephyr (1-4) seeks its first win streak of the season as the Bulldogs host Cherokee (3-2), which lost to Irion County, 73-28, Friday night.
Blackwell 56, Brookesmith 8
BROOKESMITH – The Class A Division II No. 13 Blackwell Hornets rolled past the No. 14 Brookesmith Mustangs, 56-8, in non-district action Friday night.
Brookesmith (2-2) surrendered the first 26 points of the game to Blackwell (3-2) and finished with 121 yards of total offense – 63 passing and 58 rushing – with a pair of turnovers. Defensively, the Mustangs yielded 332 yards, including 231 on the ground with no takeaways.
Clayton Adame passed for 52 yards and a 36-yard touchdown to Avery Williford. Randall Williams added two receptions for 34 yards. Adame also led Brookesmith with 38 yards on the ground while Williford rushed for 23 yards.
Next week, Brookesmith looks to bounce back as it hosts Bluff Dale (1-4), which dropped a 77-32 decision to Fort Worth THESA Friday night.
Richland Springs 61, Fort Worth Covenant Classical 16
RICHLAND SPRINGS – The Class A Division II No. 2 Richland Springs Coyotes captured their third straight win of the season, cruising past Fort Worth Covenant Classical, 61-16, Friday night.
Richland Springs (3-0), seeking its 10th six-man state championship this season, led 16-0 after one quarter, 30-8 at halftime, and ended the game in the third period via the 45-point mercy rule.
The Coyotes produced 481 total yards – 441 rushing and 40 passing – with three turnovers while allowing 104 yards – 135 passing and negative-31 rushing – with two takeaways.
Landon Burkart led the Coyotes with 229 rushing yards and four touchdowns while passing for 40 yards. Jadeyn Bryant chipped in 139 yards and three touchdowns on the ground while catching a 17-yard pass, and Zane Capps amassed 73 yards and a touchdown rushing and caught a team-high two passes for 23 yards.
Defensively, Burkhart tallied 6.5 tackles followed by Bryant with six and two sacks, and Keston Lusty with three and an interception. T.J. Grant also notched three tackles, all for loss, Nick Nilson tallied three tackles, Jeremiah Usery recorded two and Chase Gossett and Brandon Stewart finished with one tackle apiece.
Next week, Richland Springs hosts San Antonio FEAST (1-2), which picked up its first victory over Austin NYOS Charter, 52-0, Friday night.
Comanche 14, Cisco 7
COMANCHE – The defense of the Class 3A Division II No. 16 and undefeated Comanche Indians shined again Friday night in a 14-7 victory over the Class 2A Division I No. 8 Cisco Loboes.
The Indians (5-0) tallied one touchdown each in the first and second quarters, and did not allow the Loboes (2-3) to score until the fourth quarter.
Comanche forced four turnovers – three interceptions and one fumble recovery – and allowed 276 total yards to Cisco, with 216 coming on the ground. Harrison Kolb led the Indian defense with 25 tackles while Cash Cook contributed 14. Blanton Gunter picked off two passes, Aaron Suniga added an interception and Luke Wilson pounced on a fumble.
Offensively, the Indians produced 286 yards – 167 rushing and 119 passing.
Wilson also finished with a team-high 66 rushing yards while Logan Wilkerson chipped in 51 yards and scored twice. Oscar Rios also tacked on 33 rushing yards.
Through the air, Hudson Welch connected on 7 of 11 passes as Taelon Sorrells led the way with three grabs for 75 yards.
Next week, Comanche is off and will resume action Oct. 9 when it begins District 5-3A Division II action against Dublin (1-3), whose scheduled game with San Saba Friday was canceled due to COVID issues.
Cross Plains 41, Miles 12
MILES – The Cross Plains Buffaloes wrapped up pre-district action Friday night with their fourth victory in five outings, and first win away from home, in a 41-12 rout of the Miles Bulldogs.
Cross Plains (4-1) led Miles (2-3) by a 14-0 count after one quarter, 21-0 at halftime and 34-12 through three periods.
The Buffaloes finished with 499 yards of total offense including 403 rushing on 51 carries. Cason Allen led the charge with 173 yards and a touchdown while Cody McWilliams contributed 163 yards and four scores. Justin Gresham connected on 5 of 7 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown, as Ryan Hopkins pulled down a team-high two receptions for 61 yards and scored once.
Next week, Cross Plains is off before opening District 8-2A Division II action Oct. 9 at Hico (1-4), which is coming off a 41-0 loss to Winters Friday night.
Coleman 47, Colorado City 13
COLORADO CITY – The Coleman Bluecats concluded their pre-district slate with a fourth win in five outings, keeping the Colorado City Wolves winless in the process with a 47-13 victory Friday night.
The Bluecats led 14-0 after one quarter, 27-0 at halftime and 33-7 through three periods.
Coleman amassed 327 yards – 185 rushing and 142 passing.
Corbin Rosales passed for 126 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 37 yards. Denver Hunter caught touchdown passes of 8 and 14 yards while Braxton Smith hauled in a 24-yard scoring reception.
R.J. Wright rushed for a 3-yard touchdown, Cort McFadden chipped in a 2-yard score and the Bluecats returned a punt for a touchdown as well.
Next week, Coleman is off before opening District 4-2A Division I action Oct. 9 at home against De Leon (1-4), which edged Seymour, 20-19, Friday night of its first victory.
Christoval 49, Goldthwaite 19
CHRISTOVAL – The two-game win streak of the Goldthwaite Eagles came to an end at the hands of the Class 2A Division II No. 15 Christoval Cougars, who collected a 49-19 win Friday night.
The Eagles (2-3) trailed 13-7 after one quarter, 26-13 at halftime and the Cougars (3-1) pulled away in the third period, where the remainder of the points were scored.
Goldthwaite finished with 265 yards of total offense, including 218 rushing, and lost a fumble. Christoval produced 407 yards – 235 on the ground and 172 through the air – and also coughed up the ball once.
Jason Patrick led the Eagles with 119 rushing yards and completed 2 of 4 passes for 47 yards. Seth Gardner added 37 yards on the ground while Dusty Partin hauled in a 45-yard reception for Goldthwaite.
Next week, Goldthwaite is off before opening District 4-2A Division I action Oct. 9 at home against rival San Saba in the annual “Battle of the River.” San Saba (3-1) was supposed to face Dublin Friday night but the game was canceled due to the COVID issues.
