GATESVILLE – The Brownwood High tennis team slipped to 1-1 in District 6-4A action and 4-3 on the season with Thursday’s 14-5 road loss to Gatesville.
“Gatesville is good, they were tough,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Crystal Blazek. “We just came out flat and couldn’t rebound quick enough. I knew they were tough on top and we would need to pull out some wins in the bottom of the lineup which we did on the girls side. Also, being down 6-1 after doubles doesn’t really put you in a position to win. This definitely wasn’t our best showing, however, we will bounce back and be ready to get after it against Lampasas on Saturday.”
All five wins for Brownwood came from the Lady Lions – the No. 2 girls doubles team of Victoria Ramos and Aishwarya Nigalye (6-4, 6-1 over Anna Mitchell and Julee Sun), No. 3 girls singles player Ramos (6-1, 6-0 over Mitchell), No. 4 Nigalye (6-3, 6-1 over Sun), No. 5 Labritney Pollard (5-7, 7-5, 10-7 over Bri Alexander) and No. 6 Tatum Dehart (6-3, 6-0 over Laura Mitchell).
Brownwood welcomes Lampasas at 9 a.m. Saturday.
